Obverse description Stylized facing bust of King Egica rendered in the degenerate late Visigothic manner, with schematic facial features and a heavily jewelled or diademed crown suggested by angular, raised letter-forms surrounding the portrait. The design is executed in a bold, deeply struck but highly abstracted style characteristic of late seventh-century Visigothic coinage, in which the royal effigy has become largely geometric. A circular legend surrounds the central device, reading + I · D · INM EGICA P, with letters separated by pellets and arranged within a beaded border.
