| Obverse description | The obverse depicts the legendary Indigenous figure known as the Maid of the Mist, rendered in low relief as a draped female figure paddling a birchbark canoe through turbulent waters, with flowing hair and garments suggesting wind and mist. The figure occupies the right half of the field, with the prow of the canoe curving dramatically toward the lower centre. A decorative garland of stylised flowers frames the lower and left portions of the field, echoing the natural beauty of the Niagara region. The legend THE LEGENDARY INDIAN MAID OF THE MIST is inscribed in the left field in mixed lettering. The entire design is bordered by a continuous inner beaded circle. |
