Additional information

The Diocese of Grand Falls issued this trade dollar in 1981 as part of the broader Canadian trade dollar phenomenon that swept municipalities and organizations through the late 1970s and 1980s — local chambers of commerce and civic bodies producing redeemable tokens to stimulate regional spending. Grand Falls-Windsor, a twin-mill paper town built almost entirely around the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company's pulp operation, was an unusual choice of issuer given that the sponsoring body was ecclesiastical rather than commercial.
