| Obverse description | Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator depicted in high relief at centre of the concave scyphate flan, shown nimbate with a cruciform nimbus, wearing imperial loros or traditional robes. The figure raises the right hand in a gesture of benediction while the left hand holds the Gospels. Flanking the bust are the abbreviated Greek christogram IC XC (Iesous Christos) in the left and right fields respectively. The die work is crude and somewhat barbarous in execution, characteristic of Bulgarian imitative issues of this period. |
