Reverse description The reverse features two coin effigies in relief within the field. At upper left, a depiction of the New Hampshire copper penny design shows a pine tree with the surrounding legend AMERICAN LIBERTY. At lower right, a second coin effigy displays a harp motif with the date 1776. Inscriptions in the field identify New Hampshire as the first state to consider coinage following the American Revolution and note that the first New Hampshire copper penny was authorized March 13, 1776.
