Reverse description Central field features a large cross of the Order of Christ (Pátea cross), its expanded arms adorned with small five-pointed stars at each terminal and in the angles between the arms, all set within a beaded inner circle. The cross is rendered in high relief typical of Manueline hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend encircles the inner beaded border, the full motto reading IN HOC SIGNO VINCES ('In this sign you shall conquer'), separated by stops, between the inner circle and the outer toothed rim.
