| Obverse description | Central crowned Portuguese royal shield, surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial, flanked on either side by the mint marks 'o' and 'o' in the field, identifying the Lisbon mint. The shield displays the traditional quintas arrangement of the Portuguese arms. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the surrounding Latin legend reading the king's titles as ruler of Portugal, the Algarves, and Guinea. |
