| Obverse description | Central field features the denomination numeral LXXX (80 Reis) surmounted by a large royal crown with ornate fleur-de-lis finials and jewelled band, rendered in high relief. Four quatrefoil rosettes are symmetrically placed in the field, one above and below the crown and one to each side. The circular legend reads MARIA·I·D.G PORT·ET·ALG·REGINA, identifying Queen Maria I of Portugal and the Algarves by the Grace of God, separated by a small cross at the top. The coin's border is composed of fine reeded dentils running the full circumference. |
