| Reverse description | Central plain open cross with four P mint marks (for Porto) positioned one in each angle of the cross, denoting the Porto mint. The cross is set within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the circular Latin legend +IN HOC SIGNO VINCES PP PP runs around the periphery, referencing the Constantinian motto 'In this sign thou shalt conquer.' The design is boldly struck but shows typical irregularity of hammered technique, with the legend occasionally weak at the margins. The overall composition is austere and heraldic in character. |
