| Obverse description | The obverse displays the crowned Portuguese royal arms at center, comprising the quartered shield with the five quinas (bezants) of Portugal enclosed within a bordure of seven castles, set against an ornate cartouche with scrollwork flanking both sides. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, and a circular Latin legend reading +ALPHONSVS.VI.D:D.REX.PORT runs along the outer margin, partially visible on the irregular flan. |
