Reverse description The reverse bears a purely typographic design with no pictorial device, the entire field occupied by a multi-line inscription in capital letters arranged concentrically and centrally across the flan. The central field reads NEAR / FINSBURY SQUARE / LONDON / 1795, with the date prominently displayed at the base of the central text. The surrounding peripheral legend, running along the inner edge of the toothed border, reads TO BE HAD AT THE CURIOSITY HOUSE CITY ROAD, identifying the commercial establishment of the token issuer. The layout is characteristic of the advertising tokens produced in London during the coppice shortage of the 1790s.
