Obverse description Bimetallic striking trial (essai de frappe) issued by the Monnaie de Paris, with no figurative design. The central plug, struck in a silver-toned alloy, bears the inscription 'DE' in raised capital letters at the centre of an otherwise plain field. The legend 'ESSAI DE FRAPPE' is distributed around the junction of the inner plug and the outer golden-toned ring, with 'ESSAI' arching across the upper portion and 'FRAPPE' along the lower, flanked on each side by a small raised star device at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions.

Reverse description Identical in layout to the obverse, this face of the bimetallic striking trial presents the same typology: a plain silver-toned central disc with 'DE' inscribed in the field, surrounded by the circular legend 'ESSAI DE FRAPPE' spanning the interface between the inner plug and the outer brass-coloured ring. Small star ornaments punctuate the legend at either side, consistent with the medal-alignment striking. The absence of any additional motif confirms the purely technical function of this piece as a mechanical test strike.
