Široké is a village in eastern Slovakia's Prešov Region, and like dozens of Slovak municipalities after 2009, it began issuing local tokens as a community identity project following renewed interest in regional autonomy and cultural heritage promotion. The "Sokol" denomination — named after the Slavic word for falcon — is a unit unique to each issuing municipality, with no fixed exchange relationship to the euro.
These municipal tokens have no legal tender status under Slovak law but are accepted by local businesses and cultural institutions as a matter of civic arrangement.
