A picture of a torch which symbolizes enlightenment is engraved in the middle of the coin. The lettering, `UNITED STATES OF AMERICA` is engraved above the torch along the circumference of the coin. The lettering, `GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR, YOUR HUDDLED MASSES YEARNING TO BREATH FREE` is engraved near the bottom of the torch. The mintmark, MM, is engraved in extremely small font at the very bottom of the reverse.
