Obverse description Central field displays the oval arms of Basel — a black crook on a white ground — set within a beaded oval cartouche, flanked by laurel branches forming a mantling and surmounted by a Basel staff-crook crest topped with feathers. Below the shield is a decorated architectural base. The circular legend reads RESSPVBLICA BASILIENSIS along the upper rim within a milled border.
