Obverse description Ornate quartered coat of arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, displaying the heraldic arms of the see impaled with those of Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg, surmounted by a princely hat and flanked on either side by two tall Gothic cathedral towers. Decorative mantling or drapery issues from above the shield on both sides. The entire device is set within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by the Latin legend reading MAX GAND D G AR EPS SAL SE AP L, identifying the issuer as Max Gandolf, Archbishop of Salzburg and Apostolic Legate.
