Reverse description The dynastic coat of arms of Saxe-Altenburg occupies the central field, depicted as a quartered shield with the characteristic Saxon barry with a bend of rue, draped with an elaborate ermine-lined mantle and surmounted by a ducal crown. The heraldic mantling falls symmetrically to either side of the shield. A continuous circular legend surrounding the arms denotes the denomination and fineness, with the date 1842 appearing in the lower portion of the legend, all separated from the toothed rim by a beaded border.
