Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Duke John Ernest II facing right, wearing a flowing long wig with elaborately curled locks and a lace cravat, the effigy rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner. The armored pauldron is visible at the shoulder, with drapery over the cuirass. A Latin legend surrounds the effigy, interrupted by pellet stops, reading the ruler's full titulature. The inner border is plain, while the outer rim features fine milled denticles.

Reverse description Central quartered shield of arms, surmounted by an ornate Electoral crown, displaying the four-fold heraldic arms of Saxe-Weimar. The date is divided by the shield to left and right in the field, and an oval cartouche at the base of the shield bears the fractional value 2/3 denoting the denomination. The surrounding Latin motto legend is separated into two halves by the crowned shield, with pellet stops between words. Fine milled denticles line the outer rim.
