Additional information

George III held the Electorate of Hanover in personal union with the British Crown, but French Revolutionary armies overran the territory in 1803, effectively ending regular Hanoverian coin production for years. Issues from the final pre-occupation window — 1796 through 1800 — represent the last uninterrupted silver coinage before the disruption. The subdivision into sixth-thaler fractions served the heavy demand for small-change silver in a region where full thalers were hoarded well before the invasion materialized.
