Additional information

Anthony (Anton) came to the Saxon throne in 1827 at the age of 71, having spent decades as crown prince under his brother Frederick Augustus I. His brief reign coincided with significant liberal agitation across the German states, and Saxony would experience its own constitutional upheaval in 1830 — the very year this denomination ceased production — when popular unrest forced the appointment of his nephew Frederick Augustus as co-regent, effectively sidelining the elderly king. The two KM numbers reflect a minor die variation between the 1829 and 1830 issues.
