| Obverse description | A rampant lion facing left occupies the central field, its right forepaw resting upon the city arms of Mulhouse — a shield bearing the distinctive civic device — rendered in detailed relief. The lion's mane and musculature are finely engraved in the vigorous style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German municipal coinage. The date 16-23 is divided on either side of the lion's body within the field. The circumferential legend is separated by ornamental rosette stops and reads continuously around the beaded border. |

| Reverse description | A crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed in the centre of the field, its two heads turned outward, each bearing a crown, with a single arched imperial crown above surmounting both heads. The spread wings are elaborately feathered and the eagle's breast is unadorned. The circumferential legend, separated by ornamental rosette stops, encircles the motif within a beaded border, invoking the imperial authority under which the free city struck its coinage. |
