| Obverse description | The arms of Bern — a diagonal-banded shield bearing a walking bear — are displayed centrally within an oval cartouche, flanked by a wreath of laurel branches. The shield and cartouche are surmounted by an elaborate crown. The circular legend RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS runs around the periphery, divided left and right by the wreath, with the date 1797 prominently displayed in the lower exergue. The overall design is rendered in high relief with crisp milled denticles bordering the coin's edge. |

| Reverse description | A large cruciform monogram, formed by four interlaced 'BB' ciphers (Bernensis Respublica), occupies the central field, with a small radiant sun at the very centre of the cross. Each arm of the cruciform design terminates in a crown, with the four crowns positioned at the cardinal points. The legend DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT ("The Lord will provide") encircles the design, broken into four segments between the crowned arms. A fine milled border of denticles frames the entire reverse. |
