Obverse description Central field depicts the standing bear of St. Gallen in high relief, rampant to the left, wearing a collar, rendered in a bold late Renaissance style characteristic of Swiss municipal coinage. The bear occupies the full inner circle, its raised forepaws and open mouth conveying heraldic vitality. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the surrounding circular legend. The date 1565 and the abbreviated civic monetary legend are distributed around the periphery within the outer beaded rim, reading: G·MO·NO·CIVI·SANGALLENSIS·1565.
