Obverse description Griffin crouching to right, its eagle-headed profile rendered in fine archaic style with wings raised and furled along the body, forelegs extended and haunches tucked beneath. The civic ethnic ΑΒΔΗ above and ΡΙΤΕΩΝ below in Greek characters flank the figure, running along the upper and lower periphery of the flan respectively. The deeply-struck relief highlights the creature's musculature and feathered wing texture.

Reverse description Laureate head of Apollo facing right, depicted in youthful profile with short curling hair bound by a laurel wreath; a cluster of three pellets appears before the neck. The portrait is enclosed within a square linear incuse frame, the magistrate's name legend ΕΠΙ ΠΟΛΥ ΦΑΝ ΤΟΥ distributed across the four sides of the frame in Greek characters, identifying the issuing eponymous magistrate Polyphantos. The style is consistent with late Classical engraving practice at Abdera.
