Obverse description Griffin seated to left in a dynamic, springing posture, with prominent crested head raised, open beak, and elaborately rendered feathered wings folded upward behind the body. The creature's muscular leonine haunches and forepaws are finely detailed, with a curled serpentine tail visible to the right. A small round object, possibly an aryballos, appears in the lower right field. The composition fills the flan in a bold, vigorous artistic style characteristic of Abderite coinage of the mid-4th century BC.
