Kuprilli is among the earliest named Lycian dynasts, ruling during the decades when Lycia operated as a tribute-paying region under Achaemenid authority following the Persian suppression of the Ionian Revolt. His coinage represents the first generation of distinctly Lycian silver issues — produced not by a Persian administrative apparatus but by local dynastic initiative, using indigenous weight standards derived from the Lycian stater series rather than any Persian norm. The tetrobol denomination places this piece firmly within a fractional system designed for local exchange, not imperial taxation.
