| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style with carefully engraved hair pulled back and adorned with a laurel wreath. A laurel branch extends behind the head in the left field. The partial ethnic legend ΛΕΟΝ appears to the right of the effigy in the field, identifying the issuing city of Leontini. The portraiture displays the elegant, idealized facial features characteristic of Sicilian bronze coinage of the early fourth century BC. |
