This issue belongs to Trajan's sixteenth tribunician year, placing it squarely within the period of his Parthian preparations — the eastern infrastructure of Antioch was already being leveraged as a logistical base before the campaigns formally began in 114 AD. The Antiochene tetradrachm series under Trajan is unusually well-documented by die study, and Prieur 1505 / McAlee 440 represents a discrete emission within a mint that was producing at high volume to meet military pay demands in the region.
