Reverse description Facing left, the head of the nymph Arethusa is depicted in archaic style within a circular incuse, itself set at the center of a quadripartite incuse square — a hallmark of early Syracusan silver coinage. The portrait is rendered with characteristic archaic formality: almond-shaped eye shown frontally, hair arranged in tight parallel curls along the forehead, and a serene, idealized expression. The incuse technique, typical of the earliest phase of Syracusan tetradrachms, lends a bold, sculptural quality to the design. No legend accompanies the reverse type on this early issue.
