Additional information

Seleukos II inherited a fractured empire — his reign began immediately with the Third Syrian War against Ptolemy III, who sacked Antioch and briefly occupied much of the Seleucid heartland. The Susa mint continued striking through this period of extraordinary instability, making issues from this facility particularly valuable for understanding how the eastern satrapies maintained administrative function while the western empire was under foreign occupation.

His reign also coincided with the breakaway of Baktria under Diodotos I, a loss the Seleucids never recovered.
