| Reverse description | Athena Nikephoros seated left atop a chariot drawn by two horned elephants advancing right, holding a Nike figure and a shield; above and to the right, an anchor and what appears to be a palm branch or thyrsus-like symbol, all rendered in bold relief. A second device, possibly a bunch of grapes or floral motif, appears in the right field beside the elephants. The royal legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ is inscribed in the lower field, partially visible along the lower border. The composition reflects the distinctly eastern iconographic programme adopted by Seleukos I to assert both Macedonian heritage and eastern dynastic authority. |
