| Obverse description | Griffin leaping to the left in dynamic pose, depicted with outstretched wings rendered in finely detailed feathering, leonine hindquarters, and forelegs extended in full stride. The mythical creature, the civic badge of Abdera, is shown in high relief against a plain, smooth field. The treatment of the musculature and wing plumage reflects the accomplished engraving style characteristic of late fifth-century Thracian mint production. |
