Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Probus facing right, with the head turned slightly, wearing a radiate crown over a laureate wreath in the Alexandrian style. The emperor is depicted in military dress with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The surrounding Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΑΥΡ ΠΡΟΒΟΣ ΣΕΒ, abbreviating the full imperial titulature Αυτοκράτωρ Καίσαρ Μάρκος Αυρήλιος Πρόβος Σεβαστός. The portrait is rendered in the provincial Alexandrian manner, with bold, somewhat stylised features characteristic of late third-century Egyptian coinage.
