Obverse description Youthful, beardless head of Heracles in right profile, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, with the beast's gaping jaws framing the crown and the paws knotted at the neck. The finely modelled facial features — almond-shaped eye, straight nose, and full lips — convey an idealised heroic portrait closely associated with the likeness of Alexander the Great. The mane and ear of the lion skin are rendered with crisp, naturalistic detail in high relief. The field is plain, and the design is enclosed within a neat border of dots.
