Reverse description A lion's head facing left with jaws agape and tongue prominently extended, rendered with vigorous naturalism. Beneath the lion's head, a tunny fish swims to the left, a long-standing civic badge of Kyzikos that recurs across the city's coinage. An owl stands to the left behind the lion's head, its face turned frontally in the manner of the Athenian type, alluding to the coin's commercial relationship with Attic monetary standards. The reverse legend KYZIKHNΩN (of the Kyzikenes) is disposed in the field, identifying the issuing authority.
