Reverse description A kithara (concert lyre) with seven strings depicted facing, set within a shallow incuse square. The instrument is rendered with careful detail, showing the crossbar, rounded sound-box with two lateral arms, and the plectrum suspended by a cord from the right arm. The ethnic legend ΧΑΛΚΙΔΕΩΝ is inscribed in Greek characters distributed around the kithara in the field of the incuse square, identifying the issuing authority of the Chalcidian League.
