Obverse description Griffin seated in profile to right, depicted in a bold archaic style, with spread wings rising above its leonine body, the foreleg raised and resting upon an uncertain object. The creature's head is turned with a pronounced hooked beak and alert ear, rendered with fine incised detail. The figure is set upon a plain ground line within a beaded border. The overall composition is characteristic of the distinctive Griffin type for which Abdera's coinage is celebrated.
