| Obverse description | Diademed and youthful bare-headed portrait of Mithridates VI Eupator facing right, rendered with idealized Hellenistic regality. The hair is elaborately coiffed with thick, flowing curls swept back from the brow in the Alexander-inspired fashion, cascading in voluminous waves behind the head. A royal diadem is tied at the back, its ribbon ends visible behind the neck. A coiled serpent with a star at its head appears in the left field, serving as a dynastic emblem associated with the king's legendary divine lineage. The portrait is executed in high relief with exceptional sculptural quality, characteristic of the finest Hellenistic die-cutting tradition. |
