| Reverse description | A deeply incuse square frame contains an inner square filled with an elaborate grapevine motif, its sinuous branches bearing multiple clusters of grapes and stylized leaves, emblematic of Maroneia's celebrated viticulture. The magistrate's name legend EΠI MHTPOΔOTOY is arranged in Greek capitals around the four sides of the outer incuse square, reading from the borders inward. The incuse technique, characteristic of early Thracian coinage, creates a striking contrast between the raised vine ornament and the recessed border. The letters are bold and clearly spaced, consistent with late fifth-century Greek epigraphy. |
