The legend ANTIOXEΩN appears divided vertically to the left of the eagle, and ΜΕΛΕΑΓΡΟΣ appears divided vertically to the right, identifying the city of the Antiocheans and the magistrate Meleager. The entire design is enclosed within a border of meander (Greek key) pattern, a hallmark of the civic coinage of Antioch ad Meandrum.
