Obverse description Diademed head of the deified Alexander III (the Great) facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with deeply modelled, flowing hair adorned with a diadem. The curling locks are rendered with exceptional sculptural detail, and the horn of Ammon — a small ram's horn emerging just above the ear — signifies Alexander's divine association with Zeus-Ammon following his visit to the oracle at Siwa. The portrait occupies nearly the full flan, with the field left plain and uninscribed.

Reverse description Athena Nikephoros seated left on a throne, wearing helmet and aegis, holding a small Nike in her extended right hand who crowns the royal name; her left arm rests upon a large round shield decorated with a lion's head boss. A transverse spear leans behind her. In the inner left field, a bee symbol appears above a grain ear, serving as a mint control mark for Sestos. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ above and ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ below identifies the issuing authority as King Lysimachus.
