| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander III the Great facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with deeply modelled, flowing locks of hair swept back from the forehead and cascading over the neck. The small but distinct horn of Ammon curls behind the right ear, asserting Alexander's divine association with the Egyptian god Zeus-Ammon. The portrait is depicted without legend, consistent with the reverential iconographic tradition established by Lysimachus for his coinage. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of hand-struck Hellenistic silver issues. |
