| Obverse description | Heroic portrait bust of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, his flowing locks rendered in bold, deeply modelled relief characteristic of the Lysimachean series. The effigy is adorned with a royal diadem tied about the head, and displays the small but distinctly curved horn of Ammon emerging from the hairline above the temple, denoting Alexander's divine association with the Egyptian deity Zeus-Ammon. The portraiture exhibits the idealised Hellenistic style, with a strong profile, slightly parted lips, and vigorous tresses framing the face. The coin's border features a beaded inner circle, and the flan is irregularly struck, as typical of hammered issues of this period. |
