| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander III of Macedon facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with finely engraved flowing locks of hair swept back from the brow. A prominent curved horn of Ammon emerges from behind the ear, asserting Alexander's divine association with Zeus-Ammon. The diadem is rendered as a broad band tied at the back, its ends falling among the curls. The portraiture is of exceptional quality, conveying an idealized, heroic physiognomy characteristic of the finest Lysimachean die-cutters. |
