Obverse description Diademed head of the deified Alexander III of Macedon facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with finely engraved flowing locks of hair swept back from the brow. A prominent curved horn of Ammon emerges from behind the ear, asserting Alexander's divine association with Zeus-Ammon. The diadem is rendered as a broad band tied at the back, its ends falling among the curls. The portraiture is of exceptional quality, conveying an idealized, heroic physiognomy characteristic of the finest Lysimachean die-cutters.
