| Obverse description | Heroic head of Herakles facing right, rendered in the idealized portrait style of Mithradates VI Eupator, wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, with the lion's mouth open above the forehead and the forepaws knotted at the neck. The modelling is bold and plastic, characteristic of late Hellenistic die engraving in the Pontic tradition. The field is plain, with no inscription on the obverse. |
