| Obverse description | Griffin leaping to the left in high relief, depicted with a straight, finely striated wing raised horizontally above its leonine body. The creature's eagle head is rendered with bold modeling, its forelegs extended in a springing posture with taloned feet visible above a rocky ground line in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, with the rocky exergual line separating the principal type from the coin's lower margin. The execution reflects the accomplished die-cutting of the Abderite school, characteristic of the mid-fifth century BC Thracian mint tradition. |
