| Obverse description | Diademed and heroized head of the deified Alexander III of Macedon facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style, with the small curving horn of Ammon emerging from behind the ear — a divine attribute identifying Alexander as son of the god. The hair is depicted in thick, flowing locks radiating from the crown and falling in tightly modeled waves about the temples and neck. The fillet of the diadem is visible above the brow, with the ends trailing behind the head. The portrait displays the characteristic upward tilt and slightly parted lips associated with the Alexander-type iconography derived from the coinage of Lysimachus. |
