Obverse description Head of Herakles facing right, wearing the lion-skin headdress with the scalp tied beneath the chin, the jaws of the pelt framing the hero's youthful, idealized features. The treatment of the hair and musculature of the neck reflects the refined Hellenistic engraving style characteristic of Rhodian issues. A fine beaded border encircles the design.

Reverse description Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned to the left on a high-backed throne, his upper body nude, lower body draped, his right arm extended and holding an eagle, his left hand resting on a sceptre. The vertical Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs downward along the right field. The Rhodian ethnic ΡΟ appears in the exergue beneath the throne. In the left field are two control symbols: the monogram ΑΒ surmounted by a star, and below, a rose blossom, the civic badge of Rhodes. A beaded border frames the entire composition.
