Price 216 places this issue among the early Pella mint production following Alexander's departure for Asia — struck at the Macedonian heartland mint while the campaigns were being financed largely by the captured Persian treasury at Susa and Persepolis. The sheer volume of silver suddenly available after 330 BC transformed Macedonian minting from a regional operation into an industrial one.
Pella issues from this window are distinguished from contemporaneous eastern mint production by subtleties in die cutting that Martin Price catalogued across decades of die study. The specific dies assigned to Price 216 are Macedonian workshop work, not traveling mint output.
