Obverse description Youthful bare head of Heracles facing right, depicted without beard, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion whose gaping jaws form a headdress over the crown and forehead. The fur of the lion's pelt drapes naturalistically over the neck and truncation. The portrait exhibits fine Hellenistic workmanship with carefully rendered curling hair visible beneath the headdress and strong, idealized facial features. A dotted border frames the design.
